An Hour in the Closet
We had kids crawling all over us and it was almost dinner time, but I took one look at this closet and begged my friend Jamie (a photographer - she took these pics btw) to let me at least give it a quick reorg! Whew! By the end there was a big pile of donate stuff, and two even crankier/hungrier toddlers, but we did it!
If I'd had more time, I definitely would make the hangers all the same color, add a few baskets/bins, and take some of the clothes out...
But honestly, I just wanted to show you what can be done in even an hour.
My strategy was (and is always):
- Remove everything from the closet
- Eliminate the items you don't need/use anymore, into a donate pile
- Eliminate the items that should be stored somewhere else (i.e. the holiday bin in garage)
- Put everything else back - grouped together, and easily accessible
When it was time to put everything back into the closet, I first decided to put all of the suitcases up on the top shelf, since they aren't used too often.
Jamie had three massive plastic bins (very useful btw), which we used to store extra blankets and pillows. These we stacked together, out of the way.
I also found several baby keepsakes here and there, so we put them all together into this wooden crate with Emma's name on it. It's up out of the way, since it's not used very often, but accessible for Jamie to add something else to it if she wants to.
They needed a place to store new toys, out of reach, for Emma. (Think: one new exciting toy each day...), so these are on the shelf. If we'd had more time, I probably would buy a couple of slim baskets to keep them in so Emma doesn't sneak a glimpse.
All of the coats/sweaters are hung on the bottom row, and all of the shirts and dresses on the top. I typically organize from (left) warm weather to (right) cold.
These three bins (pic below) I filled with: 1. pajamas, 2. baby wipes, and 3. crib sheets.
So there you have it! A closet in much better working order. And a happy mama.
Below I've also listed some ideas of other accessories for organizing, all from CB2, that we could have used in this closet, or that you could use in yours!
Happy Friday, friends!
