The other night it was date night! Do you ever do date days instead of date nights? I kinda love it because you can go out in the afternoon and then arrive back home just as the kiddos are going to sleep. It's like double date night. I don't know why it took us so many years to realize this, haha.
We tried this little hole-in-the-wall cocktail bar right as they opened at 4:00 (yep, those people). The place, Pepe Le Moko, is super unassuming but just had the best cocktails. You enter in off the street, but it looks like just a closet-sized room with a hostess stand. Once you go down the stairs though, you get to the actual bar, which reminds me of the bunker in the show Lost. For reals! It's romantic, dimly lit, and has the most delicious cocktails. Oh and it's directly next to the Ace Hotel / Clyde Common which we also love, in case you're hungry after!
I couldn't get enough of the Aviation, the cocktail (err...or cocktails??) I tried at Pepe, so decided to make it at home this past weekend. Here's the recipe! If you love gin, and lemons, you'll like it. Also because of the creme de violette, the drink has a pretty purple hue to it - so pretty!
Aviation Cocktail (I converted the measurements for you...also this is for 2 cocktails)
- 3 Tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup dry gin (4 oz)
- 1- 1/2 Tablespoons maraschino
- 1 T. creme de violette
